However, it has been a year since the Obama administration assumed position, and no positive changes have taken place so far. A legislation proposal has been spear headed by Representative Barney Frank that would potentially over write the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006. Unfortunately, the people responsible for reviewing and approving the said proposal have no time to give attention to the matter yet, and are still busy attending to the country’s more important pressing issue, its economy and financial difficulties.

Representative Barney Frank is positive that discussions will soon happen albeit in 2010. The coming new year brings hope to Frank and the rest of the online casino industry, as more and more are supporting the much awaited change of US gambling laws. Gaming analyst Walter Boggs, was quoted saying “It is not a matter of resistance at this point, it is more about time and importance of the issue in regard to some of the other issues the government has had to deal with this year. I believe something will definitely happen in 2010”. The recent changes brought about by the said US gambling law has forced many online casinos to pull out services from their US markets. More and more casinos are in fact pulling out since the past couple of months. Eventually the US government grants these players immunity and cancels the charges as the US citizens used the Fifth Amendment rights to their advantage. The US remains to be the biggest market of online gambling. The online casino industry awaits the coming of the next year, hoping for a win-win situation for both the online casino industry and the US government.

This is to avoid the legal complications and prosecutions brought about by the law. This reflects the real frontiers of the gambling industry. The legality or illegality of gambling actually depends on the state laws that govern the player. If you are in the United States, then online gambling is illegal. There are debates though on the illegality of online gambling as, again, the law prohibited the transfer of the money but not the actual act of gambling.
